Procedures performed at the Dental Specialties Center by a multidisciplinary team strengthen specialized care for patients with differentiated clinical indications.
The Municipality of Trindade, through its municipal health network, resumed dental care with sedation this April at the Center for Dental Specialties (CEO), expanding care for patients who require specialized treatment.
The services had been provided previously, with records dating back to 2023, and are now being offered again, guaranteeing greater accessibility and quality of service. The first patient treated this year was a 21-year-old non-verbal autistic young man who already has a history of sedation treatment provided by the municipality.

Access to the service is through referrals from Basic Health Units (UBSs), where the patient undergoes an initial assessment. After that, the case is directed to the CEO (Center for Specialized Dental Care), which performs a specialized analysis to determine the need for sedation and the appropriate location for the procedure, which may take place at the center itself or in a hospital setting.
Sedation treatments are performed with the support of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring safety throughout the entire process. The team includes professionals such as a doctor, nurse, paramedic from the Trindade SAMU (Mobile Emergency Care Service), as well as a dental team composed of an endodontist, oral surgeon, and dental assistant.
The doctor responsible for the procedure, Dr. Kleber Cardoso, highlighted the integrated approach. “The SAMU advanced support team, with a doctor, nurse, and paramedic, works together with the dental team to guarantee complete assistance during the procedure. Sedation allows us to treat patients with specific needs, offering greater safety and comfort in an integrated care setting,” he stated.
During sedation, the team takes the opportunity to perform several dental procedures in the same appointment, optimizing care and reducing the need for multiple interventions.
The patient’s mother, Juliana, highlighted the importance of the service. “This is the second time he has undergone the procedure, and even with the apprehension, I feel reassured knowing he is being well cared for by a complete team of professionals. I was very happy with the resumption of sedation in Trindade, because it makes things much easier for families. In our case, it would be very difficult to have to travel to another city, especially since he is a severely autistic patient,” she stated.
According to the coordinator of specialized care, Brenda Sara, access to the CEO follows an organized flow. “To be seen at the Dental Specialties Center, the patient must first go through the dental primary care unit, which makes the referral. At the CEO, services such as pathology, endodontics, orthodontics — intended for patients up to 14 years old enrolled in the municipal network — prosthetics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry are offered,” she explained.
The resumption of sedation treatments reinforces the municipality’s commitment to offering humane, inclusive, and safe care, expanding access to specialized oral health services.
